LEAGUE END OF SEASON TOURNAMENTOn 23rd April, St. Albans Netball League held its annual end of season tournament in Verulamium Park. All 18 teams who play in the league took part, and the teams were split into three divisions, with each match lasting ten minutes. The four semi finalists were St. Albans Open 1 v Watford Premier, and Breakspear Reds v Kardale Greens. This resulted in a very closely fought final between St. Albans Open 1 and Kardale Greens, ending in an 8-8 draw at full time. After extra time, Kardale Greens came out on top beating last year’s winners St. Albans Open 1 by one goal (10-9). |
This year League Chairman, Diane Graham, suggested to the league that from now on, the tournament should be held in aid of charity. For this first year, the members generously allowed Diane to choose the charity, one that is very close to her heart.
The Children’s Trust does amazing work in providing rehabilitation, therapy and education, for children and young people who have acquired a brain injury through accident or illness. They also provide respite care for families of children, like Diane’s elder son Nicholas, who are born with multiple disabilities. |
The league members showed great support and enthusiasm, and everyone paid a fee to play, supplied raffle prizes, baked cakes to sell and there was a competition to ‘Guess the number of goals scored during the tournament’. This all raised a staggering £1,000. Diane said this exceeded all her expectations, and is very grateful and touched by the members’ support. The event was also supported by St. Albans Councillor Annie Brewster.
Jessica Allchin, The Children’s Trust Community Fundraising Manager for Herts. and Essex, said: ‘The effort and creativity that went into fundraising as part of this tournament was absolutely incredible and well done to the winning team! Community support and donations help The Children’s Trust reach out to more children and families experiencing the effects of brain injury; if you feel you can help us or if you want to know how you can get involved, please get in touch via our website www.thechildrenstrust.org.uk |
End of Season Tournament 2016The St. Albans League is very pleased to announce that from now on, our annual end of season tournament will be held in aid of charity, which this year will be on 23rd April.
All teams have responded to this idea with fantastic support and enthusiasm. Every year teams will vote for the charity to be supported, but for this first year, the Chairman is delighted that the league have allowed her to choose the charity. This will be The Children's Trust based in Surrey, who do the most amazing work with children and young people who are born with profound and multiple disabilities, or who acquire a brain injury through accident or illness. Any support for this event will be welcome For more information go to www.thechildrenstrust.org.uk. |
